The Smile singer, 37, announced last month that she would be taking a break from updating her five million Twitter followers for a while as she wanted to “focus” on her work.
But beloved singer Lily is back online, and she’s not holding back, as she lashed out at the violent content of her Twitter feed, the human species, and speeded-up pop songs in a recent post.
The Not Fair hitmaker cited speeded-up pop songs on the radio as symbolic of how “insane” the human species has become.
But on a more serious note, the singer also wondered why her Twitter feed was full of violent videos, and she noticed an interesting theme that she claims gets through all of them.
Speaking to the platform, which was recently bought for around £36bn by Tesla mogul Elon Musk, Lily wrote: “I just heard a speeded-up pop song on popular radio radio, this trend just confirms how insane we have become as a species.”
“Also why is my feed full of videos of people getting beat up in public places, I don’t follow the accounts posting these videos. I hate it here.
‘the violent videos are similar in that, usually the recipient of the beating has resisted the attacker(s) in some way and there is usually a mob of people just watching this attack and not doing/saying anything to to stop it.
“It’s interesting on a metaphorical level, and I wonder who’s pushing these videos and for what purpose.” [sic]
Some fans helped Lily filter her Twitter recommendations, suggesting that the “For You” feed contains these types of videos, while the “Following” feed generally only contains posts from followers.
One of them wrote, “Make sure your feed is ‘following’, not ‘for you.’ Don’t trust twitter to dictate what you see.”
“Switch your feed from ‘for you’ to ‘following’ – will remove all traumatic and annoying recommendations,” another recommendation.
Twitter’s “sensitive media” rules state: “You may not post media that is overly gory or shares violent or adult content in live videos or in profile or header images.”
‘Media that depicts sexual violence and/or assault is also not allowed. Learn more.’
Final month, Lily knowledgeable her Instagram followers that she can be taking a social media hiatus to give attention to “actually nice issues arising within the work discipline.”
“I have been discovering it more and more tough to pay attention currently due to the telephone,” she started.
“There are some actually nice issues arising by way of work and I actually wish to ship on these commitments and all of the folks concerned.
“Which means we’re accomplished.”
