The Wednesday Letters web page likes the look of Aliens: Darkish Descent as a reader has a tough time imagining Exoprimal being successful.

Secrets of Zelda
That article about Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom with a secret feature that hasn’t yet been revealed is the most Nintendo story yet. Not only is it incredibly vague, but it could literally be a genre-defining innovation or someone who doesn’t have one when translating.
I have no idea what it is, but it’s always fun to imagine there’s a big reveal just around the corner that’s going to open the doors, so let’s get on with that. One interpretation is that he is talking about some kind of randomized, procedurally generated content. Maybe the islands in the sky? But he says world although, implying that everything changes.
We’ll have to wait and see, but I really hope another secret is Zelda being playable. Bad voice-over or not, it’s about time. It doesn’t matter though; a score of 0/10 wouldn’t keep me away. Though I’m not sure I’d watch another Nintendo Direct if there was one. Big secrets, or even medium ones, I’d rather find out in the game.

Old vice
Am I the only one who doesn’t really like the idea of GTA 6 being set in Vice City? Not that I have anything against the place or the original game, but how long has it been since we’ve had a GTA game set in a completely new area? San Andreas in 2004?
It just feels like they’re cycling past the locations every time and at this rate, GTA 7 is almost guaranteed to be set in Liberty City. I’m sure there will be other areas we haven’t seen before, but it seems a bit limiting.
I guess Rockstar thinks it’s all in the name or the realism and you can’t just come up with a new New York City style venue out of the blue, but… right? Who would care if it was a choice between the same city again and a completely new location.

As seen on TV
I’m curious if Star Wars: Survivor will have a serious connection to the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. I’m sure there will be little Easter eggs, but would they go further and have a cameo and a voiceover from Ewan McGregor, and put Cal in one of the shows?
For all the talk over the years, we’ve never seen this kind of thing in games and it certainly doesn’t happen with Marvel, where everything is most definitely not the MCU.
You could say it wouldn’t change much, but I think it could help make the word seem more consistent. However, the question is what will happen to Cal? Will he die? Will his big TV appearance be him popping up and dying within the first five minutes? I saw that happen.

Check those angles
Aliens: Dark Descent looks really good. I loved the XCOM games, but I’m glad they’ve gone with real-time action – which should help with its appeal. It’s a shame that strategy games don’t do so well on console. The lack of a mouse and keyboard doesn’t help, of course. There are very few good games based on the Alien IP, the latest being Alien Isolation, which is now nine years old (I can’t believe it’s been that long, I still have that game installed).
The last Aliens game was very disappointing, just another cookie cutter based shooter. Aliens: Dark Descent seems right up my alley though. Hopefully I’m not in the minority, because I’d like to see more games like this made.

Zelda-like
I know I’m really late to the party, but I recently started playing Genshin Impact on my PlaySation5 and I’m really pleasantly surprised by how good it is. I’m patiently waiting for the new Zelda game and remembered reading that Genshin shared some similarities. Since it’s free to play, I thought I’d give it a try.
I’ve put about 20 hours into it now and the content of the game is amazing. Huge game world, nice mechanics and many similarities to Breath Of the Wild. It is also not in your face to buy content. If you haven’t tried it yet and you’re desperate for new Zelda, give it a try.

Solid suggestion
I think most fans would agree that Resident Evil Code: Veronica is the best choice for a remake, but I think we have to face the fact that they just won’t get it. It’s not nearly as popular as the numbered games, it has a weird name, and they’ve already remade the game that came out after it. It’s just not happening.
I’d like something out of left field like a Resident Evil Gaiden remake, but I agree it’s best to just drop the remakes and move on to new games. There’s no reason why you couldn’t have spin-offs and smaller games, so really it’s best to just keep going.
What’s really past time that needs a remake is Metal Gear Solid and I don’t understand why it hasn’t happened yet. Especially since they did Silent Hill 2 first. If they’re concerned about making changes that don’t seem authentic, keep the dialogue exactly as it is. It was always the best translated entry anyway.

Or your money back
To yesterday’s reader, asking if they should get Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice on the Steam sale. I’d say go for it and if you don’t like it you can refund it as long as you don’t play longer than… I think it’s 2 hours, no questions asked from Valve.

Big ideas
Personally, I hope that the talk of an F-Zero remaster and the success of the Metroid Prime version means we’ll see a GameCube mini console. I don’t know why Nintendo didn’t make an N64, it could have had something to do with the pandemic, but I’d much rather buy a mini GameCube than a bunch of individual games to download. Mainly because you really need the weird controller to get the full effect.
I know the GameCube isn’t Nintendo’s best console, thanks to the bad Zelda and Mario games, but I think it allowed many other franchises to shine. There’s Metroid Prime and F-Zero, of course, but Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Resident Evil 4 (and the remake of 1), Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, Viewtiful Joe, Super Monkey Ball, Pikmin… there’s a really big list of forgotten but great games that aren’t usually available in other formats.
I’m sure some people would be just as happy playing them on the Switch but a mini console would just seem more of a party for a console that did it with the big names but managed to do a great job with less for the obvious things.
In any case, I’m glad there are so many remasters out there right now. The little purple lunch box deserves more respect!

I haven’t played the beta and I want to love Exoprimal, but really, it doesn’t look great, does it? I’m all for dinosaurs and what looks like a next-gen Dreamcast game, but I just don’t see it finding an audience, which sucks if you want other companies to have more dinosaurs as well.

Hot topic this week
The topic for this weekend’s Inbox was suggested by reader Grant, who asks have you ever dreamed about video games?
That doesn’t mean daydreaming about an imagined sequel or remake, but a game that has had such an effect on you that it ended up in your dreams. It doesn’t have to be a nightmare, but what games have you been dreaming about and why do you think they reached your subconscious?
Was it because you played them often or because their story or gameplay had a profound effect on you? Or do you find it inexplicable that they ended up this way?
