Rumors of a compilation of Metallic Gear Stable remasters have resurfaced, hoping Konami will unveil it in the course of the newest state of play.
Though followers of survival horror won’t complain about the truth that Konami apparently intends to launch dozens of new Silent Hill games, it’s strange they haven’t announced plans for the ostensibly higher profile Castlevania and Metal Gear franchises so far.
The obvious problem with Metal Gear is that creator Hideo Kojima was ousted from the company years ago, so it’s very hard to make new games in the series, but that hasn’t stopped the ongoing rumors of remasters, remakes and sequels to turn. offs like Metal Gear Rising.
A remaster compilation has been rumored many times, most recently last August when it was suggested that it would include the first three Metal Gear Solid games. And now a new rumor suggests the reveal will take place tonight, at Sony’s State of Play showcase.
The rumor started with VGC writer Andy Robinson, who stated in a tweet that he “had five beers on a Tuesday, AMA.”
He was promptly asked, “When is this Metal Gear Solid collection coming out?” to which he replied, “Watch our podcast on Thursday.”
Nothing else seems to have been said since then, but as many have pointed out, it’s also the PlayStation State of Play showcase tonight at 9pm, and Sony has already said it will focus on third-party games.
That could be a coincidence, but either way, Robinson suggests some news will be revealed today, though there doesn’t seem to be time for when the VGC podcast goes live.
Many of the rumors surrounding Metal Gear are tied to Sony, with persistent suggestions that they’re helping Konami create an exclusive remake of the original game.
However, there has never been any evidence of that, or anything else, and as credible as the rumors sound, there’s every chance they won’t lead anywhere.
