Adam Lambert sang Sam Smith’s praise in the series 2 premiere of Starstruck.
The Stars In Their Eyes-inspired transformation show is back for another performance, with Jason Manford, Beverley Knight and Adam on the panel, along with new judge Shania Twain.
With Olly Murs also returning as host, the show welcomes ordinary people to become extraordinary stars for one night only.
Three men took their time transforming into their idol, Sam, donning powerful suits and wigs to truly embody the star.
They took the stage and belted out Stay With Me with ease, channeling Sam’s killer vocals and angelic high notes.
When giving feedback, American Idol star Adam was particularly moved.
Adam, who is openly gay, called Sam an inspiration for making other LGBTQ+ people visible. came out as non-binary in 2019.
“It’s my pleasure to meet Sam, we’re friends,” Adam began.
“They’re such a special character in pop music,” he said of Sam, who uses she/they pronouns.
“Sam is part of a very small group of international mainstream artists, who come out as non-binary, and it takes a lot of guys to say, ‘This is who I am.’
“They’re part of a wave of people helping everyone be exactly who they should be.”
Adding to the three artists, Adam added, “Thank you so much guys for capturing that spirit and heart that goes into that song.”
Viewers at home were also impressed by the reimagining, with one calling it “great.”
Adam’s comment comes after Sam was involved in a disturbing incident back then they were harassed in the street.
The Latch hitmaker was berated by a stranger while walking around New York City, as one woman called them “demonic.”
Sam has spoken up to now concerning the deluge of abuse they’ve obtained since popping out and altering their pronouns.
Talking to Apple Music 1, they mentioned: “What folks do not realize about non-binary trans folks within the UK is that it is occurring on the streets. For instance, I get extra verbal abuse on the road than ever earlier than.’
They added, “Somebody spat at me like I used to be on the street. It is loopy.’
Sam famous that they’re involved about non-celebrity queer people who find themselves dealing with comparable abuses.
“It is simply so unhappy that we’re in 2023 and it is nonetheless occurring. It is exhausting,” they mentioned.
