Inside design has been a ardour for Kevin Billings since his childhood in Leesburg, when he spent many weekends redecorating his room.
After graduating from faculty with a level in communications and advertising, Billings labored in residential administration for eight years, honing his abilities transforming and furnishing luxurious flats. “When covid occurred,” he recollects, “I used to be burned out and determined I used to be able to exit by myself.” In 2021 he launched the design company Dexter & Plaid.
A thread of nostalgia is woven into all his tasks. Even when purchasers request a contemporary look, he normally incorporates classic touches, scouring Etsy, 1stdibs, and vintage shops. “Including issues which can be worn and liked and have a patina makes the inside really feel much less stark,” he explains.
Billings traces this affinity for timeless treasures to his mom and grandmother. “They each had meticulous houses the place all the things felt very intentional,” recalled the designer, whose present residence in Leesburg comprises many household heirlooms.
Likewise, Billings urges clients to pick out furnishings, artwork, and equipment that deliver again fond recollections. As he displays, “I need folks to stroll into their completed residence and really feel like they’ve already lived there.”
