Inside design has been a ardour for Kevin Billings since his childhood in Leesburg, when he spent many weekends redecorating his room.
After graduating from faculty with a level in communications and advertising and marketing, Billings labored in residential administration for eight years, honing his expertise reworking and furnishing luxurious flats. “When covid occurred,” he recollects, “I used to be burned out and determined I used to be able to exit alone.” In 2021 he launched the design company Dexter & Plaid.
A thread of nostalgia is woven into all his tasks. Even when purchasers request a contemporary look, he often incorporates classic touches, scouring Etsy, 1stdibs, and vintage shops. “Including issues which might be worn and beloved and have a patina makes the inside really feel much less stark,” he explains.
Billings traces this affinity for timeless treasures to his mom and grandmother. “They each had meticulous houses the place every little thing felt very intentional,” recalled the designer, whose present dwelling in Leesburg comprises many household heirlooms.
Likewise, Billings urges prospects to pick furnishings, artwork, and equipment that convey again fond reminiscences. As he displays, “I need folks to stroll into their completed dwelling and really feel like they’ve already lived there.”
