Gwyneth Paltrow won her US skiing accident lawsuit in 2016.
The actress was sued by retired optometrist Terry Sanderson for a hit-and-run in Utah.
Sanderson had accused Paltrow of crashing into him during a skiing incident and was seeking $300,000 (£243,000) in damages claiming it caused him “permanent traumatic brain injury, four broken ribs, pain, suffering, loss of joy, emotional stress and deformity.’
Paltrow denied all claims and filed a countersuit for $1, arguing that she was actually hit from behind while at Deer Valley Park, after which she sustained minor injuries.
Judges have now determined that the Oscar-winning actress was at fault.
The decision comes after eight days of evidence and just over two hours of deliberation.
She was awarded $1 in damages.
The court hearing began on March 21 and was streamed live on YouTube.
Attorneys for both sides had presented their closing arguments earlier today, after which the jury officially retired to begin their discussion.
Both Sanderson and Paltrow took the stand to defend their cases alongside expert testimony and witnesses, including a Deer Valley ski instructor and Sanderson’s daughters, while Paltrow’s children Apple and Moses gave statements that were read in court.
During cross-examination, she added that she felt “deeply sorry” for Sanders, adding, “It looks like he’s had a really hard life, but I didn’t cause the accident, so I can’t be at fault.” continue what happened to him next.’
This week, an expert said Paltrow’s version of events was “consistent with the laws of physics.”
