Welcome to room envy, a collection wherein we ask fascinating folks a couple of favourite room of their home. From minimalist residing rooms to vibrant kitchens, we deal with one of the best options of probably the most enviable rooms.

You could possibly say that Lale Boz was at all times destined for her personal place on this planet of design. Born and raised in Turkey, the artistic grew up with two enterprising dad and mom who ran their very own knitwear manufacturing firm. “All my childhood I traveled with them, went to take a look at materials,” she remembers. “Making my very own garments was actually my playground.” A job in model improvement would take her to New York in 2016, ultimately to Dumbo, the place she formally based her design and inventive company Regular.

Because the model continued to thrive through the pandemic, Lale opted to go bicoastal, including a moody house in downtown LA to the combo whereas renting out her Dumbo residence. The 2 areas could not be extra reverse in fashion: New York is emblematic of the beginning of her inside design profession, with vivid, trendy and lofty interiors, whereas LA is a development in direction of one thing darker and extra true to what the inside designer feels. this current second. Lale views the 2 as an evolution of her design journey. Regardless of the varied kinds, her design philosophy has remained unchanged from the beginning: “I wish to break by means of the standard understanding of a house, present those who it’s about group, recollections, bringing the previous, [it] current and create a future.”

How would you describe the aesthetic of your inside in your New York house?

My New York house is in one of many oldest boutique buildings in Dumbo, simply off Vinegar Hill. The architects left a lot to the manufacturing unit instances, so all of the beams and ceilings are authentic. I used to be in Turkey for a number of months through the pandemic once I bought the house, and it was this all white clean canvas. Earlier than that, I might lived in a number of locations, from Clinton Hill to Wall Road to SoHo. Dumbo was my final cease. And it was like, okay, I am 25 now, I wish to create this secure, heavenly area for myself in New York. At the moment my fashion was extra female than it’s now – I used to be all for mild colours, I did not even take into consideration incorporating darkish shades into that home. So I went for a mixture of lighter colours and materials, including assertion items as decor.

Lale assembled the espresso desk himself, shopping for the inexperienced face and legs from separate vintage shops and envisioning them collectively.

How did your fashion change whenever you moved to LA?

After I first moved into my Los Angeles house, it was a change. The structure could be very completely different from my New York house: it is a U-shaped bed room with no doorways, so it might have been a studio if it weren’t for my tucked-away bed room. It is also in an industrial constructing downtown, in one of many oldest buildings round, so it seems like my piece of New York as a result of it is not an actual LA area in any respect. Design-wise, it is a lot darker than my New York house. After I moved in, the fabric decisions had been all very darkish walnut and mahogany. The second I noticed them I used to be like, okay, that is my time to get darkish and moody.

On the identical time I rented it, I truly had a consumer for whom I used to be organising these temper boards with Nineteen Seventies interiors impressed by California architects like Schindler and Eames, so I actually leaned into that. Now, each time I come again right here from journey and even from an extended day at work outdoors, I really feel a lot extra on this area than I’ve ever felt wherever else in my life. It simply feels a lot like a heat hug to me, regardless that it is a darkish place.
