The The Resident Evil 4 remake is finally coming to next-gen consoles and PC this week, with improved graphics and a reimagined story.

The original Resident Evil 4 was hailed as a modern classic when it was first released on the GameCube in 2005, setting a precedent for all action games to come after.

Fans of the horror game franchise have been speculating for years whether Capcom will remake its fourth installment, as Resident Evil 1, 2, and 3 were all revived at some point.

Now that it’s time for the Resident Evil 4 remake to take center stage, you can start anticipating what’s already being hailed as one of the best games of the year.

Can you play the Resident Evil 4 remake on PS4 and Xbox One?

As some companies prioritize the next generation of consoles, it is no longer guaranteed that all new games will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

As such, the Resident Evil 4 remake will be available on PlayStation 4, but not Xbox One.

While the announcement initially caused confusion among fans, it’s not too surprising that Sony has the home field advantage when it comes to companies like Capcom.

Additionally, if you prefer a more compact style of gaming, you won’t be able to enjoy the Resident Evil 4 remake either, as it’s not coming to Nintendo Switch any time soon.

In addition to PlayStation 4, the game will also be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Steam.

What is the release date of the Resident Evil 4 remake?

The official release date for the Resident Evil 4 remake is Friday, March 24, and pre-orders have been available for a while.

Once the clock strikes midnight, the game will be available for download through your console’s digital store, Steam, or you can purchase the physical version from any standard game store.

Some games will give players early access for purchasing special editions, but unfortunately that won’t be the case with the Resident Evil 4 remake.

However, you can still get a taste of what’s to come as you can download it Chainsaw Demo for free and play a specially tuned version of the game’s opening scene.

How much does the Resident Evil 4 remake cost?

The standard edition of the Resident Evil 4 remake comes with a £54.99 price tag on the PlayStation Store.

The Xbox Series X/S Standard Edition costs an extra £2.99, priced at £57.98, even though it comes with the exact same content.

As usual, the game is slightly cheaper on PC, where it costs £49.99.

Is there a deluxe edition of the Resident Evil 4 remake?

There are several special editions to choose from depending on how much money you want to burn.

The digital Deluxe Edition costs £64.99 for PlayStation and £65.98 for Xbox Series X/S, meaning you’ll need to spend an extra £10 for it. The same edition for PC costs £57.98.

In addition to the base game, the digital Deluxe Edition comes with an additional DLC pack. This is what it contains:

  • Casual costumes for Leon and Ashley
  • ‘Romantic’ costumes for Leon and Ashley
  • ‘Hero’ Leon costume and gameplay filter
  • ‘Villain’ Leon costume and gameplay filter

Players who pre-order the Standard or Digital Deluxe Edition will also receive two attache case styles and two charms.

For those willing to go the extra mile for their Resident Evil solution, a Collector’s Edition is also available. This exclusive edition is only available in physical form for PlayStation and Xbox Series X/S consoles and carries a price tag of £249.99.

But don’t worry, you get a lot for your money as it comes with a shiny sample book, a figure of Leon, the game’s art book and a poster to decorate your wall. You’ll also receive an additional top-secret DLC pack.

Will the Resident Evil 4 remake get a VR mode?

Capcom has already confirmed that the Resident Evil 4 remake’s VR mode is in development, but it won’t be completed for several months.

It’s still unknown if the PlayStation VR2 feature in the Resident Evil 4 remake will encompass the entire game, as was the case with Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village, but that’s the assumption.

Of course, devoted Resident Evil 4 fans know that this isn’t the first time the game has been available to play in VR.

The original game has already been adapted for VR, developed by Armature Studios for the Meta Quest 2 and released in 2021.
