Tensions ran excessive in Sunday’s episode Love Island features Sammy Root storming off during an altercation with Jess Harding after she called him out for leading Leah Taylor — and fans are not impressed.

During the hour-long episode, the project manager, 22, came to realize that he really wanted to make it work with Jess, also 22, and instead of politely abandoning Leah, he decided to let her know in a ruthless reconnection.

While proclaiming his interest in the beautician to the rest of the group, Sammy labeled Leah as a “test,” leaving her in tears.

Leah, 27, later caught up with him for a chat where she tried to explain how his behavior had made her feel… but he didn’t seem to understand what he had done wrong.

At the same time, Ella Thomas, 23, took Jess aside to fill her in on what was going on between Sammy and Leah.

At the end of the episode, Jess had words with her new partner, saying she felt like he lied to her face and downplayed his flirtation with Leah.

“You’re flirting with her and making fun of her,” she said angrily, prompting Sammy to reply, “What am I supposed to do when I get to know her?

“Everyone makes me look like an ad*ckhead when I gave the girl a chance when I thought there was potential there.

“I gave her 100%, which I felt was the fairest thing to do.

“I gave you 100% and at the end of the day I want you more and she’s mad about that. She is angry that I called her a test, and I have apologized for my actions. What else can I do?’

But Jess was still upset and continued, “I feel like you haven’t been completely honest with me.”

Sammy grew increasingly frustrated and hit back: “Stop saying I haven’t been fair because I’ve been right in the middle with the two of you.

“Tell me how I haven’t been honest with you? I just don’t understand what’s bothering you.’

“I simply do not prefer it,” Jess replied, prompting an irate Sammy to stroll away.

Love Island followers have been livid at how the dialog escalated and have been unimpressed when Sammy stormed off.

Taking to Twitter, one slammed: ‘HOW IS SAMMY THE ONE STORMING OUT???? Jess RUN away from him.”

“Sammy on the total protection there, insanity for him to storm off like that,” one other criticized, whereas a 3rd added, “Sammy will get defensive, cuts off Jess and does not see how Leah was harm by calling her a check… . there are crimson flags all over the place, get my lady out of there.”

Viewers will have to wait and see if there’s any chance Sammy can salvage his romance…

Love Island continues on Monday at 9pm on ITV2.
